Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Toxic if eaten. Pot up foxglove plug plants and grow them on in warm conditions until large enough to plant in their final positions outdoors. When Digitalis plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period. Plant Foxgloves out in sun or dappled shade on any fertile, well drained soil. Digitalis will grow well in most soils except for waterlogged or particularly dry conditions. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil prior to planting. Water well to settle the soil.
Water foxglove plants regularly until fully established. Foxgloves self-seed freely. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead stems of foxglove flowers as the blooms fade. In autumn, cut back old stems to encourage plenty of new side shoots.
