Penstemon plants dislike cold, wet soils in winter. Plant them in a well drained site, adding compost or well rotted manure to amend heavy clay soils. Choose a position in full sun or semi shade.

Feed and water Penstemon plants regularly until they are fully established. Cut back faded Penstemon flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced.
